There are plenty of things nobody warns you about when you turn 60.
Your knees begin providing sound effects. Sleeping in the wrong position can cause a three-day injury. And you can pull a muscle simply by reaching for something on the floor.
But there’s also something wonderful that happens: you stop caring so much about what everyone else thinks.
Not in a rude way. You just finally realize that life is too short for uncomfortable shoes, tight waistbands and spending time with people who drain your last good nerve.
Comfortable shoes? Absolutely.
Elastic waistbands? One of humanity’s greatest inventions.
Grey hair? Those are complimentary highlights.
Plans cancelled? Suddenly, your evening just got better.
Someone doesn’t like you? That sounds like their problem.
When you’re younger, you spend so much time worrying about fitting in. You wonder whether your clothes are fashionable, whether your house is impressive and whether everyone approves of your choices.
After 60, your priorities change.
You want comfortable clothes, good coffee, a cozy home and people who don’t require you to pretend to be someone you’re not.
You’ve learned that peace and quiet are more attractive than attention. A night at home can be better than a night out. And taking off your bra at the end of the day is practically a spiritual experience.
You’re no longer trying to impress the world.
You’re simply trying to enjoy your life—with comfortable pants, a good dog and absolutely no unnecessary nonsense.
And honestly?
That might be the best thing about being over 60.
